War Child UK Launches Sporting Champions Fundraiser

UK charity kicks-off sports game Steam sale; tees-up livestream

London, United Kingdom – 26 August 2020 – War Child UK returns today with Sporting Champions, a brand-new fundraiser that utilises the unifying power of sports to positively impact the lives of children and young people whose livelihoods have been torn apart by war. The campaign kicks-off with huge discounts on a selection of top-class sports titles via Steam, and will also play host to a number of charity livestreams.

Teeing off today - and running until 1 September - is the
Sporting Champions Steam sale, which features a range of top-class titles from across the sporting spectrum, including Dirt 4, Pumped BMX Pro, OlliOlli2, Super Mega Baseball 2 and Descenders.

A percentage of proceeds from the sale will go directly towards providing young, war-affected people with psychosocial support, social connectedness, trust and coping skills; alongside opportunities for growth and personal development. A full list of participating games is available below.

Throughout the campaign War Child UK will be broadcasting fundraising livestreams showcasing the sensational games available in the sale. Join in the action on the
War Child UK Twitch Channel between 4pm - 6pm BST on the 26th August - 28th August and 31st August - 1st September.

"

Our campaign slogan is: ‘You play. So every child can’, and that is just as important now as it ever was.”

About War Child

War Child is striving for a world where children’s lives are no longer torn apart by war.

We protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in conflict. We aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out, and stay to support them through their recovery - helping to keep them safe, give them an education, and equip them with skills for the future.

We understand children’s needs, respect their rights, and put them at the centre of the solution - from supporting children to access education, to reintegrating child soldiers, and promoting justice for young people in detention. Together with our partners we work in the following five countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.

We also work with children and young people to change systems and practices that affect them – campaigning on the root causes of conflict and demanding that children are at the centre of humanitarian response.
